Important Guide!

All papers will be subjected to plagiarism test and successful papers with plagiarism test score not exceeding 10% will be peer reviewed. The scientific programme committee (SPC) will judge papers according to published grading schema. Decision of the SPC will be final.

The INTERNATIONAL UNION OF PURE AND APPLIED CHEMISTRY (IUPAC) and The Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) appreciates your willingness to contribute your paper to the joint conference. Transfer of copyright to IUPAC AND CSN is a requirement for publication, including publication in conference proceedings, with the exception of material that is in the public domain (i.e., is not subject to copyright). Under this agreement, authors and their employers retain certain rights to make copies and reuse the material (refer to the Author-Retained Rights and Terms and Conditions below this form). The author/employer also retains any and all rights to any proprietary material disclosed in the paper. This process allows for maximum dissemination of the information while maximizing protection against infringement by third parties. Under the terms of Nigeria, EU, UK, and U.S. copyright laws, an assignment of copyright must be a written, signed document from the owner of the work. Copyright assignment protects reproduction and distribution of the paper. IUPAC and CSN shall control the use and may offer to sell and/or collect royalties for use of the paper.

Publications are critical in our joint society’s mission to collect and disseminate knowledge concerning the chemistry, chemicals and related materials or technologies, for the public benefit; and to help scientists and industry professionals enhance their scientific and professional competence. To meet these objectives freely and effectively, IUPAC and CSN does not accept limited permissions, including special licenses, to publish. This Copyright Transfer Form must therefore accompany and be executed for any original material to be published by IUPAC and CSN, including publication in conference proceedings or organisations’ journals. To ensure uniform treatment among all contributors, other forms may not be substituted for this form, nor may any wording of this form be changed.


Submission Stages:
  1. STAGE 1: Abstracts
  2. STAGE 2: Draft Manuscript by only those whose abstracts were accepted (the Full Paper in the format/template prescribed by the conference organisers plus a completed author data or paper information form PIF)
  3. STAGE 3a: Camera Ready Full Manuscript by only those whose draft manuscripts were accepted (Full paper in prescribed template and signed Transfer of Copyright form (TOC))
  4. STAGE 3b: Submission of slides in the prescribed format by only those whose Camera Ready Full Manuscript were accepted

If the abstract/paper is selected for the programme, the information published in the registration brochure will be extracted from this form.  Please type the following information.  IUPAC and CSN will communicate with the corresponding author on all matters.  List authors in the order they should be printed in the programme.

Scientific papers to be presented at the conference will be selected from abstracts submitted to the Scientific Programmes Committee. The abstracts are evaluated on the basis of the information supplied on the abstract form in accordance with the following criteria:


  1. The proposed paper must contribute to E-waste and or chemistry in its broad forms or be of immediate application to solving world problems.
  2. Data in the abstract must be scientifically and technically correct.
  3. The substance of the proposed paper must not have had prior journal publication or extensive circulation.
  4. The abstract must be written in a style that ensures the proposed paper will not be commercial in nature.
  5. The abstract must have necessary clearance before submission. Any issue concerning clearance should be outlined when the abstract is submitted.

Enter a title that is concise, yet descriptive of the primary content and application of the proposed paper. Company names and trade names are prohibited in paper titles. Ensure you list the Corresponding Author (the author with whom IUPAC and or CSN will correspond on all matters) and include appropriate company and complete address information. If paper will be co-authored, list the names in the order they should appear in the programme. Provide addresses and additional information requested for all authors on a separate sheet (as in page 2 above).



Please provide abstract here (about 250-500 words). Include title of paper and author s at the top.

A proper review of your abstract requires that it contain adequate information on which to make judgement. The suggested limit of 250-500 words should not be constraining if the abstract is limited to the following factual highlights:


  1. DESCRIPTION OF PAPER: Outline the scope and nature of the work upon which the paper is based (e.g., field data, laboratory data, original analysis, or computer work). If paper is a review paper, carefully state the extent of the coverage.


  1. METHODOLOGY, RESULT, OBSERVATIONS, AND CONCLUSIONS: Summarise the methodology for data gathering, results and major conclusions to be presented in the paper and state how these differ from previous work on the same subject. State whether new information will be revealed and whether data from field, lab, or computer work will be included.


  1. APPLICATIONS: Describe the possible applications of the information provided in the paper.


  1. SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS: Describe the significance of the proposed paper by listing up to three scientific contributions or additions to the knowledge base of the chemical industry.



Full manuscripts should be in MS WORD, pictures/diagrams could be in JPEG, BITMAP or GIF formats compatible with MS WORD.

The full paper template may be obtained as per item 9 below.

Initial manuscript submission is considered draft, after acceptance, you are required to submit Electronic full Manuscripts plus Author Data form and Copyright transfer form by stated deadlines.


  1. Written confirmation of receipt will be provided or e-mailed.
  2. Authors of accepted papers for presentation will be notified by via email and on the online submission portal.
  3. Authors offering papers should fully understand that an electronic copy manuscript would be required for each accepted technical paper.
  4. The maximum desired length for any paper is not more than 7,000 words including figures and tables.



A PowerPoint template will be provided to prepare for the presentation at the conferenceAuthors who do not submit their camera ready manuscripts and PowerPoint presentation slides by the due dates will be removed from the conference program and replaced by an alternate paper. Please note that, if accepted, your abstracts may be published, as submitted, in conference information media, including on the IUPAC and CSN websites.


All authors of papers to be presented will be required to complete and submit a signed copyright release form to the Chemical Society of Nigeria or IUPAC. A copy of the Transfer of Copy right form may be obtained from



The event organisers assume no obligation for expenses incurred by authors for conference registration, travel, lodging, food, or other incidental expenses.


A template of an old paper will be provided in the event website. Please delete old text and use template to prepare paper as per the ‘further notes’ listed below, in item 10.

To ease editing and formatting, please refer to the approved sample template (sample paper provided in the website) and kindly adhere to the following format:


  1. Header on 1st page
  2. IUPAC & CSN Logos stays as is.
  3. Paper Number (i.e. xxxxx) to be supplied by the Scientific Programmes Committee on acceptance of paper.
  4. Supply title of paper: key words started with capital. Use font 14 (Arial), embolden and italicise.
  5. Supply names of authors and affiliations. Use font size 10 (Times New Roman or Arial).


  1. Copyright header: leave as is.


  1. Abstract: Leave in Italics. Fonts size 10 (Arial). Abstract to briefly highlight the background for the paper, method of data collection, what work the author has done or his contributions, results of work and relevance to the chemistry body of knowledge or the chemical industry.


  1. Subsequent headers after page 1: Substitute names of authors and paper title. Use Arial, font size 8.


  1. Text of Paper:
  • Use Arial, font 10.
  • Text in two columns.
  • Headings bold, with caps starting each key word in the heading.
  • Figure number and title on bottom of figure, in bold.
  • Table number and title at top of table, in bold.
  • Outline the scope and nature of the work upon which the paper is based (e.g., field data, laboratory data, original analysis, or computer work). If paper is a review paper, carefully state the extent of the coverage, describe the significance of the proposed paper by listing the scientific contributions or additions to the technical knowledge base of the chemical industry, summarise the results and major conclusions to be presented in the paper and state how these differ from previous work on the same subject, state whether new information will be revealed and whether data from field, lab, or computer work will be included, and describe the possible applications of the information provided in the paper.


  1. Abbreviations: List at end of paper and/or explain immediately after first usage. ­­­­


  1. Appreciate proper punctuation and use of reasonably long or short sentences, to aid clarity.
  2. Acceptance of paper will be based on such considerations as originality of paper, scientific contribution to the chemical industry, application of findings of paper and relevance to the theme, currency of data, clarity of expressions and non-commerciality of paper will also be considered.


  1. Use Microsoft Word to prepare the paper.


  1. Where there are figures and tables endeavour to fix these figures and tables on relevant pages to avoid scattered information and error, especially when opening document in other windows ­­­­­versions.
